Artists create a novel experience.that is both visceral and introspective Unlike other forms of media, the unique physicality of this art form requires the viewer to be physically present, for its impact to be fully realized and experienced. In other words, the presence of being in that space with a painting is a necessary element of the relationship. Technological advances have provided us with a greater degree of connectivity and information sharing.
At the same time, there has been a growing disengagement from the natural world. and its counterparts. We are however.products of this planet's tapestry, despite the physical barriers and illusions we hold up to shield us from this reality. We still crave those experiences in the physical realm, it is in essence what makes us human.
Constant bombardment of images, sound bytes, and stimuli in contemporary life, contrasts the immersive, tranquil experience of interacting with the natural world, such as taking a walk in the woods. As well, spending time at a museum or an art gallery will engage a contemplative muse. Art gives us permission to entertain a meditative moment, a "stillness of the soul" so rarely encountered in modern life.
Like the natural world, a painting is created over a period of time, encompassing the artist's perspectives. vision and experiences, using natural elements, i.e.often a plant based substrate, and pigments, and materials derived from nature. A painting commands the viewer to pause, providing a reciprocal interaction. If well executed in design and form, a dialogue of possibilities and potentialities is created. In essence it does not just make you think, but allows you to feel in that space of physical immersion. There is a sense of presence, it does not simply occupy space. it enables the participant to delve inward, to reflect, and ask questions about oneself and universal truths.
My goal is to inspire a desire in others to experience, and celebrate the beauty and diversity of the natural world, enable dialogue and exploration of ideas, and an increased connection to each other through my art. Our natural world is a precious jewel, together we can ensure its continuation.
After all, the reality is that we are all here together on this ark called planet earth!
